For those of us who are dedicated bloggers, we sit at the keyboard for hours. By the time we’re done with our post, our hands are aching and our fingers are tingling. Don’t you wish you could rub a magic lantern and ask the genie to make it so you could speak the words, and have them appear on the page? But that’s only for fairy tales and fairy tales aren’t real . . .are they????
Did you know that almost everybody has speech recognition on their computer? Right now, I am speaking these words instead of typing them. My hand does not hurt—in fact, it isn’t even touching a keyboard. I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “how much does this cost, because in this economy I can’t afford anything”. Want to know how much it cost? It costs nothing. Yes, you heard me right--- that’s $0.00, nadda, zilch!!
First ask yourself if you have Windows XP or Windows Vista. If you have either one of these, voice recognition software is included. All you have to do is set it up. You will need a microphone, but the one I’m using right now, is just my web cam microphone. It is by no means perfect, but for the most part, I would say it’s probably 90% accurate. The more you use the voice recognition software, the more accurate it is.
The best thing about it, is that it’s easy to install. First make sure all of your updates are done on your computer. The rest I will show you how to do in this video below.
Note: If you have problems, see the bottom of this post--after the video.
To train the microphone, just click on tools on the language bar that should be on your screen somewhere. You can move the language bar by moving the pointer to the left side and dragging it
If you are having problems with the language bar being greyed out when you go to Regional Language Options in the Control panel, you can call CCS Computers and they will help you for a small fee. Unfortunately, most computer geeks can not figure it out. Before you call, make SURE you have done all your Windows updates as that will sometimes solve it.

Tami, you are too cool! Can't wait to have the time to try this. I wonder if it will still work with the obnoxiously loud cartoons that my 4 year watches in the background? Go check out my mom's blog, she is so torn about Casey, her dog.
Tami - You keep amazing me with this cool stuff! It's definitely something worth checking out on my computer. Of course I'll have to go out at some point and buy a microphone to make it work :-)
Donna - I had to buy a microphone for my laptop last night because a lot my writing, I do on it. It only cost $20 at Staples.
Tami - now, if only I could speak my thoughts coherently. If you think my posts ramble you should hear me speak. But, thanks for posting, I will try this out. I do have an integrated microphone on my laptop.
Tami,
I am actually typing this and it has taken me a full day to get this far!! Now you know why I complain when I have to do a MeMe.
I am being shamed into setting up my voice capabilities now. I am to old for all of this technology and if I do it then I won't have anything to complain about. ;-)
Thanks for the information ma'am.
LOL @ Don. Oh my word! Too funny.
Big Mike, there is just too much noise going in my house for this to work for me. The computer can't hear me over the TV and squawking (LOL). My speech delayed kids make lots of vocalization without verbalization sounds (LMAO). They can talk when it suits them... They just like making noise better. :-)
Tami, very cool post!

Way to cool! Now for your next training session....how did you get thet screen with pointer onto this post to go along with your voice? I noticed it said Pling at the end. Is that the secret? Of course with my Alabama Southern drawl I probably would never be brave enough to use it! ha ha I love your accent!
Debbie
Amy -I'm going to do something special for your mom. Check out my posts later this afternoon.
Mike - Your posts are wonderful!! Don't be surprised if your laptop microphone doesn't work. The more clear the microphone the better the software works!
Don you crack me up!! You are never ever to old for this technology or any other!! Now go set it up cause it took way too long for you to type that one line . . LOL
C-Tann - THANK YOU FOR THE FEATURE. I really think it will help a heck of a lot of people!!! I wish I could get it to work in these little comment boxes though!!
Debbie - Actually it is the secret and it is soooooooo simple. Just go to www.JingProject.com and it explains how to do it!! Actually the voice recognition is trained to understand how you speak. I spent about a half hour reading script to train it. The more you use it the more accurate it gets.
I worked for a large company that produced voice recognition software for YEARS -- I can't believe I never thought of using it for my blogs. Simply genius!
I am going to try this that for the tip!
Tami, that is great information. I'll have to try it sometime when I'm in a quiet room.
Kerry--I knew that had to help a lot of people. I have been using it for every blog I write. I just wish I could make it work in these little comment boxes!!
Lubbock - Try it . . .you'll like it!!
Maria- It does take a quiet room - no doubt.
Tami-Thanks for sharing. When I get a chance, I am going to check it out. I have windows XP, so I should be able to get it too.. Great Blog...
Tami,
Thank you for the info. I will have to check this out.
Ann
Tami - That's really cool. I was thinking about buying a program and also a mic for speech recognition. Now I just need to buy a mic.
Laura- You are so welcome - I knew many people probably didn't even know it was there--I sure didn't!
Tami, I didn't know this existed! Thanks for sharing..great for someone like me who has had carpal tunnel syndrome.
No way! That is so cool! I might just have to try that out.
Barb---That is exactly why I started asking around and found this!!
Tony - I love your comment . . I was pretty excited to!
